The artwork inside the album booklet for Roll the Bones included images that alluded to the theme of fate. The picture of wishbones floating above a lake is a nod toward the superstitious custom in which two people pull at opposite ends of the fowl’s desiccated breast bone. The person who comes away with the larger piece gets to make a wish. The bone was once nicknamed a “merrythought.”
There’s three bones, of course, which is in keeping with the trio symbolism that can be found throughout Rush’s artwork.
“The femurs were on my bass drum during that tour,” recalls Neil Peart.
